Tal's Spurs Wave Of Turmoil NEW YORK, Dec. (JTA) -- The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organi- zations said that the assassina- tion of Jordanian Premier Waf- si el Tal in Cairo contributed to the wave of turmoil in the Arab world and was a cause of deep concern for the rapidly deterio- rating situation in the Middle East. Rabbi Israel Miller and Ja- cob Stein, acting co-chairmen of the Conference coupled their statement on the assassination with a renewed call to the Nix- on administration to deliver more military equipment includ- ing Phantom jets to Israel. "The renewed activities of the Palestinians and Egypt's Rabbi Raphael H. Levine who was honored at an Israel Bond Rally is shown holding two awards that were given him. They are the Sidney Gerber Award and the Jerusalem City of Peace Award. A great many members of the Jewish community purchased a large number of Israel bonds during the evening in honor of Rabbi Lev- ine. open threat to begin a war of L, annihilation against Israel is Golda Meir to Spea K reminiscent of the ominous atomosphere of 1967," the state- ment said. "It is essential that under the circumstances the Nixon administration not yield to blackmail of any kind." We are dealing with a socie- ty in convulsion that has not achieved the values of the US or Israel." Prices Vary For N0n-Jewish Girls in Israel In New YorL: Prime Minister Golda Meir will be the guest of honor at a dinner of welcome which will be held in New York City under the auspices of the Israel Bond Organization on Sunday, De- cember 12. This announcement was made by Sam Rothberg, Gener- al Chairman of the State of Is- rael Bond campaign. He said that admission to the Dec. 12 dinner for the Israel Prime Min: ister will be based upon a mini- mum purchase of $1,000 in Is- rael Bonds per person. The proceeds from the sale of Israel Bonds help finance the economic development of Israel through the expansion of indus- try and agriculture, the exploi- tation of natural resources and the construction of housing, highways and public buildings. Middle East Military Preparations Ominous NEW YORK, Dec. (JTA) -- The secretary general of His- tadrut, Yitzhak Ben Aharon, said here yesterday that the military build-up in the Middle East was reminiscent of World War II. Addressing a meeting of American Professors for Peace in the Middle East, Ben Aharon observed that the Soviet Union has supplied Egypt with greater fire power than was available to Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery at the battle of El Alamein. The trade union leader made the comparison in reference to Egyptian President Anwar Sad- at's speech to his troops Satur- day telling them that he has decided to go to war against Israel because there is no chance of a political settlement. JERUSALEM (JTA) -- The price one pays to marry a non- Jewish girl depends on what one gets -- or can afford. Prices of Moslem and Druze brides vary with age and physi- cal stamina and depend on whether they are city or coun- try bred. According to the Central Bureau of Statistics, the price paid by a Moslem bridegroom to the father of the bride is IL 3,900 ($928.57), while the price for a Druze bride is IL 3,500 ($833.33). The lowest prices are paid in the cities -- IL 2,600 ($619.05) -- the highest are paid for girls sold to Bedouins in the Negev -- IL 4,900 ($1,116.67). These figures are almost three times higher than in 1969 when the Bureau of Statistics began registering these prices on the basis of the marriage contracts. , . j Happy Holiday "l, From iWll Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Goldfine _ !
