Brotherhood, Peace Long Goals of ish People Herbert I. Berns, Vice Presi- dent Northern Area, District Grand Lodge No. 4 of B'nai B'- rith issued the following Rosh Hashanah message: "May you be inscribed in the Book of Life" is the essence of our New Year holiday. We Jews have been concerned, as have all the peoples of the world, with the matter of life and death. In our most desperate times, we moved for brotherhood. In the the greatest division, for brotherhood." "We have chosen in our most difficult peace and period of we fought life, even times be- cause we have an overbiding belief in the joy of living a full and considerate life. It has been only when we left these pre- cepts that we have wandered from the wholesome ways of our people." "For 127 years, B'nai B'rith has been a vehicle for the full- est participation in the joy of living a vigorous, full and satis- fying life of service to oneself and that of others. Through HAPPY NEW YEAR TO THE JEWISH COMMUNITY... from KAHLBERER HOTEL SUPPLY COMPANY OF WASHINGTON 914 VIRGINIA ST. SEATTLE 2008 N.W. BLVD. SPOKANE ELTEE TOOL & SUPPLY CO. 5300 Fourth Aye. South RO 2-0990 SEATTLE Lodge life, we have had the opportunity of many golden moments." "We have opened the doors of service to youth through the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization and through Hillel on the col- lege campuses. In this way, our young people have experienced many opportunities of living in the best traditions of our cultur- al heritage; to join with others of their age and to work with adults in special meaningful projects." "Through the activity of the Anti-Defamation League, we have been able to develop in- sights for relationships with the non-Jewish community and join with others who have the same goals as we do- of brother- hood and mutual respect and understanding." "Through the Adult Educa- tion projects, we have been able to deepen our understanding of ourselves and in many other areas, vocationally, educational- ly, and spiritually. We have played, since our inception, a prime role in helping those vic- tims of discrimination, our own as well as others, all over the world, and are playing a basic and vital role in the desperate struggle of Israel to maintain her identity and life in the Mid- dle East." "We surely have worked hard to live up to the B'nai B'- rith motto of 127 years "Benev- olence, Brotherly Love and Harmony". And so through the eyes of this motto, we look backward and forward to the next year. In the custom of our people on this High Holiday, we assess our lives and the future and summing it all up, we are sure that we will be entered in the Book of Life, a life which m mmm i m HULLIN TRANSFER COMPANY O 270 SOUTH HANFORD MA 3-5006 SEATTLE will be full and satisfying. , "On behalf of the Distric Grand Lodge No. 4, B'nai B rith, its Executive officerS, lodge members, staff and Wash" ington Council of B'nai B'rith Lodges, we wish all of our members and friends in this community a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year.
